Microsoft releases preview of voice-enabled ‘Copilot Vision’ AI browsing companion for Edge

Microsoft is introducing a new AI-driven feature called Copilot Vision for its Edge browser, currently available to a limited group of paid Copilot Pro subscribers via Copilot Labs. This feature aims to enhance the browsing experience by using AI that “sees” the same page the user is viewing and interacts with them through voice, offering insights and recommendations.

The idea behind Copilot Vision is to act as a second set of eyes while navigating the web. Once activated, Copilot Vision scans and analyzes the content on the page in real-time, providing useful thoughts and suggestions based on what it “sees.” This adds a layer of interactive support, making it more like having an intelligent assistant right alongside you as you browse.

The feature, first announced in October, is part of a broader initiative by Microsoft and other tech companies to incorporate AI agents and companions into everyday tasks. The integration of AI is designed to be more intuitive, moving away from a utilitarian sidebar approach and leaning into a more conversational, interactive experience.

However, some users have voiced concerns over Microsoft’s shift from a simpler, more functional Copilot sidebar to a more chatty and consumer-focused version. While the new adaptation promises a more engaging experience, it also changes how users interact with the feature, possibly complicating its utility for those who prefer straightforward, task-oriented assistance.
